At the end of gestation and around birth, pregnant sows may suffer from hard and solid manure (droppings).

Causes

This can have several causes: the proportion of fiber in the diet may not be optimal, causing worsening manure consistency and constipation. The transition from group housing to individual housing in the farrowing pen can also be a cause (stress).

Prevent?

By activating the aerobic (oxygen-loving) bacteria, the sows suffer significantly less obstipation (defecating, hard manure) and therefore more effective digestion of nutrients.
